The Journal of Asian Legal History, an on-line journal that is free to all students in the field, is sponsored by The Hall Center for the Humanities at The University of Kansas.
It is devoted to the history and development of law in China, Japan, Korea, Vietnam,
and contiguous areas of central Asia from its beginnings until the end of the nineteenth and the start of the twentieth century. In addition to individual articles, the Journal is also interested in publishing groups of articles on particular topics such as might result from academic meetings, as well as translations of seminal articles originally written in languages other than those used in the Journal. Several features are offered that we hope will make it attractive to students of the field. Articles will be published in English, French, German, and Italian and may be of any length. Chinese and Japanese characters, Japanese kana and the Korean alphabet may be used both in the text and footnotes
and scanning also allows for manuscript material to be displayed as it appears in the original. Translations of legal documents are welcomed and will include the original texts. Articles published in the Journal can be read and printed both with Macintosh and PC computers using the Adobe Acrobat Reader® which is a free download from Adobe.com. The copyright remains with the author. We ask only that the article not appear in any medium for a year after appearing in the journal and that if it does appear at a later time that acknowledgement of its first publication in the journal be given.
